Exploring Downham Market

So yesterday while Jonny was at work I decided to go explore our town to see what's out there! Everything is really close so it was nice to get a 3-4 mile walk in. I was actually looking for furniture, but didn't seem to have a lot of luck with that! About 5 minutes away from our house is a big park where so far I have seen people walking and playing with their dogs, and others playing cricket. There is a field actually set up for the game, so I guess it's pretty popular ;) Today on my way home as I walked through the park I met an older man who was there with his 12 year old yellow lab. He said that around 7 and 8 every morning the park turns into a big open dog park. I guess a bunch of people bring their dogs off leash to run and play with eachother. Made me even more anxious to get our pups out here! It really is a big open field so I imagine Aspen will explore her surroundings and Bailey, as usual, will be waiting for the ball to fly! The older man, Corey, gave me some good tips about places to visit and how to get there.
Yesterday on my quest to find furniture, I went into a Reeds Homestore which seems to be a similar equivalant to our Bed Bath and Beyond, only with a furniture department. Everything is so small and compact, so the layout was pretty different! The interesting thing was between the basic household items and furniture department outside, inbetween the two is a cafe! I think they serve breakfast and lunch, it all smelled so good! I am hoping to take Jonny there sometime for a meal this weekend. After I was finished in Reeds, I went to the town center and checked our a few local shops. Right in town center are 2 newly opened hotels, a couple pubs, and town hall. But what I saw more than anything was take out! Sit down resturants don't seem to be very popular in our village, but they have chinese take out, indian take out, and then there are places with a little bit of everything. Needless to say, town center makes you really hungry =) Today I took the same walk only tried to be gone a while longer. The nice thing is that everything is so close, however, makes for short walks...lol. Today I did a bit of a perimeter walk around the town center-I didn't want to go too far and get lost, that would just be my luck! Also found a butcher shop, (walking by there did NOT smell good...) a couple bakeries, (which looked amazing) and a few delies in the town center! I'm sure we will be making regular stops in those shops!
Well that is about all for now, Friday Jonny's FTAC class is going on a tour of a local town, Bury St. Edmunds, and luckily, I get to go with them! So we will surely have more pictures and stories tomorrow!

  1. Your blog is so interesting to me because I was fortunate to visit Downham Market back in June of 2004. I had wonderful memories of that quaint little town. Thank you for sharing!
