The past couple of months for us have been filled with family, fun, and finally work!
Jonny and I were lucky enough to spend the holidays with my dad, Connie, Kevin, Brokk and Berit. They flew in for about 10 days, and brought the Colorado snow with them! That weekend before Christmas, England had the largest snow storm in about 10+ years and basically closed the country for a couple of days. Thankfully it cleared up in time for us to see Les Miserables at Queen Theatre! We spent some time in London, had family photos taken in Cambridge, and enjoyed time together relaxing around the house. It was definitely nice to have some visitors for the holiday season. We were also dog-sitting for another Fire couple while they were visiting family in, yes, Colorado! So with our two girls, Bailey and Aspen, their two boys, Harley and Diesel, we had quite a puppy farm going on here! January rolled around and get this, I actually got myself a job! I now work for the Beauty Portrait Company on Lakenheath four days a week! The owners of the studio have much experience in commercial photography in London, they even have a friend who frequently works as a make-up artist on magazine shoots for Vogue. She often works at the studio as an artist as well. They've asked me to head up their new venture into the Bridal business, so this week I am arranging a bridal shoot for Thursday! I'll be sure to post some photos when we get them back!
Jonny has also started a somewhat new venture at work, but unfortunately, nothing he's too excited about. He has been assigned to a rotation in the dispatch (alarm) room at the department for the next 6 months or so. He should have his telecom certification completed this week, along with his last CDC test. He has been working on his CDC's since arrival last August, so completion will surely be worth celebrating!
Another reason to celebrate, is we were offered a house on RAF Feltwell, which is about a 10-15 minute drive away from Lakenheath. Much much closer to work for now both of us! We should be settled in our new home by the end of February. Feltwell is a nice, quiet, GREEN base, with lots of homes, parks, and open spaces for the dogs to run. Jonny's the lucky one who was able to see it last week; I don't even know where it is to go find it! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a peek maybe Wednesday, guess we shall see!
This past Saturday was filled with quite a few activities as well. In December I was asked to be one of the three key spouses for the fire department and we hosted a Firewives "Meet & Greet" at the department on Saturday. We all had a great time and good attendance which was what we were going for! There was food, prizes, and games including a scavenger hunt and "Firefighter" Relay, hence the video posted below. Our next event is Saturday the 6th where the Civil Engineering Squadron is having a Packing Party. Each deployment, the different shops set up boxes, one for each deployed airman from their shop. They spend 2 weeks filling the boxes up with letters, snacks, photos, jokes, whatever they want to send, then there is a Packing Party to make sure they're full, make sure everything is appropriate for each country the boxes are going to, then wrapping and packaging them up to go! We're hoping they arrive by Valentines Day, just to be a little something fun for those protecting our country and fighting for our freedom. As they surely deserve it! We currently have 8 guys gone, so the three of us will have a busy packing day! I may go pick up a pack of small Nerf or Water guns to stick in there too. Toys in the dessert are always a plus. Jonny wants to send David a sand castle set =)
