English Winter & Jonnys Birthday Bash

December 5th was Jonnys 27th birthday, so we went out the night before to do a little celebrating with some of his fellow firefighters. We had a great time at a little pub in Mildenhall Village called the Maids Head where the boys enjoyed some beer and karaoke.

The pubs out in the boonies where we all live, you can always put into two categories...the first is probably the idea that pops into every Americans head when you hear "English Pub". Old wooden chairs, tables, bar filled with British ale and lagers with elderly men reading their morning paper. The second, is just about what every American would think when you hear "dive bar". You know, that shady looking building right down the dark alley with flashing neon lights. Well out in the middle of nowhere England, those are simply pubs. Some Englishmen once directing a few of us around Downham Market last year said that if we go in the pub down the street it is a relaxed, quaint environment. If we go up the street the pub is more "party party". And the one we spent his birthday at was actually a strange mixture of both. One half the bar was comfortable and relaxed and the other had a large karaoke machine and lots of flashing lights. Needless to say it was quite an experience!

Looking outside this morning was actually quite a breathtaking view. The sky was blue, clear, and the sun shining. But the ground, trees, flowers, even spider webs were all covered in a bitter ice frost. It was -2C outside all day and the frost maintained unique look until the sun went down about 4pm. The dogs and I went up to the Feltwell field for some exploring, running, rolling, and general play time before I met a friend and her little baby boy for lunch this afternoon. Of course the girls had a blast =)
